Kojirō

Kojirō is the youngest member of our North Star Wolfpack. He was born on the 12th of March 2022. The name Kojirō is an old bushi (samurai) class name. The kanji (characters) chosen for his name are 誇士狼. The first character 誇 translated into English means pride. 士 is the second kanji. It can either be pronounced as shi or ji. This character refers to the bushi class, which is a more commonly used term for the feudal Japanese samurai (warrior) class. Finally the kanji 狼 is the character for wolf. It can either be pronounced okami or rō. Together the kanji 誇士狼 are read as Kojirō (proud warrior wolf).

Kojirō is a hybrid between American and European wolfdogs. According to his Embark DNA test, he is 71.6% Greywolf, 24.1% Czechoslovakian Wolfdog and 4.3% Alaskan Malamute. This makes him an upper mid-content wolfdog with about 78% pure wolf in him.

As a result, it is only understandable that his wolf genes are more dominant and he is very wolf-like in appearance, temperament and personality. For Kojirō, his pack is everything. He is generally very shy and wary around humans. Even towards those, who he knows since an early age, but who don’t belong to his pack. This is despite him being socialized with many humans on a daily basis and growing up in a loving and caring environment. For him, you are either part of the pack or a stranger he has to be wary of.

However, within our pack he has an entirely different personality. There he always wants or even demands most of the attention and cuddle time from us, as well as from Shizuka and Hiroyuki. He also loves to lie down on top of us with his whole weight to cuddle. When he is doing this on the bed he often falls asleep as a result of the comfort this gives him. However he also can be an energetic wrecking-furball when he is happy and often gets on our and Shizuka’s nerves with his wild behaviour.

Towards other dogs Kojirō is very open and self confident. He wants to greet and play with everyone he meets. Except if the human owners are next to them, then he keeps a curious distance unless the dogs approach him on their own. Then it’s playtime!
